Yes, this is with CHASE HSA and I don't think I have a choice through my employer to switch to another provider. We don't get matches in this account.

You can choose your custodian, and transfer accounts between different custodians. However, if your health plan or employer makes a contribution, it may select the custodian to which it makes contributions, and may offer other incentives such as waiving service fees.

IRS Pub wrote: If you instruct the trustee of your HSA to transfer funds directly to the trustee of another HSA, the transfer is not considered a rollover. There is no limit on the number of these transfers. Do not include the amount transferred in income, deduct it as a contribution, or include it as a distribution on Form , line 14a. You can rollover yourself similar to an IRA, or trustee transfer.

I heard someone that has a chase HSA that doesn't charge to send out trustee transfers that might work better double check as I don't have chase and I don't know if they treat everyone the same.

Also, at HSA bank you can get Vanguard funds without any transaction fees if you sign up for automatic investing. Details on the wiki. Please see Health Savings Account on the Bogleheads Wiki. Just fill out the paperwork and the new custodian pulls it from the old one.

ACA Replacement Bill From Cassidy And Colleagues Offers State Options, Roth HSAs

I just moved to HSA bank with the TD Ameritrade linked account so I could hold my HSA funds, which I treat similar to an IRA, in Vanguard funds. Our life is frittered away by detail I don't receive contributions from an employer but I've moved my HSA twice with no issues.

Maybe you can transfer there. There's a boglehead that runs this: I do get contributions from my employer which are worth sticking with my existing custodian for. But would it be possible to siphon these contributions over to a custodian such as HSA Administrators after they are made?

I think you can transfer part of it, but I have never tried it. Ask your custodian or just look at the forms they provide online. You have to do the transfer correctly to avoid tax issues, you can't just withdraw funds and put them in the new account. I have established an HSA with Health Savings Administrators.

Make the check payable to Fulton Bank, Custodian. The only drawback that I know of to having 2 accounts is that you may have to deal with 2 sets of fees.

That seems to indicate that partial distributions shouldn't be a problem, although I will call both to make sure. Everyone should write letters to Bill McNabb requesting that Vanguard offer HSA's. We are maxing out every year. All HSA accounts allow partial transfers and you can do it 2 ways: You can do it only once per year - IRS rules - and need to report that on tax return. Second account went as direct rollover - only 2 days to clear the check , funds have been on hold for about one week more but it was OK becasue we did not wanted to invest those anyway.

New HSAs that we choose do not have investment option but pay 4. Why do places offer rates on HSA's that are so much higher than can be found on interest checking or savings accounts elsewhere, or even at their own institutions?

I hate to pay 0.
